Two places on the earth. Two different problems. Powerful juxtaposition.
Everything is connected to everything else. Everything.
What follows is not a cogent piece. It is the dumping grounds for stuff running around in my head this morning. There is clearly a bias here – it is rather obvious. However, this blog is my stump (Ha!) and stump I shall.

I received a letter from my daughter today. She is hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, as I’m sure I’ve mentioned before in a previous entry. Her letter was written on Aug 16th (on the trail) and mailed from Portland Oregon on Aug 23rd. We are working through some emotional things that have been building between the 2 of us over the past 5 years. Unmet expectations of a father-daughter relationship that once seemed much stronger and much deeper. We just haven’t spent enough time together, enjoying each others’ company and talking about what really matters.
The Yosemite Rim Fire has not advanced in my direction over the past 2 days and is now being reported as 20% contained. However, this fire is far from a “done deal”. Per the inciweb report from today:
Fire Update as of August 26, 2013
“Fire crews had their hands full with very active fire behavior today. Near Duckwall Ridge, the fire spotted across the line with crews working to control the spot. The fire also crossed the 3N01 road in Reynolds Creek, prompting an expansion of the evacuation advisory in the Highway 108 corridor. Fire crews also were working to contain a spot fire in the southeast portion of the fire as it crossed to the south of Highway 120 at Ackerson Flat. Firefighters were successful in completing dozer line below Pilot Ridge, effectively slowing the fires spread in this location. Tonight crews will continue to work the three spot fires, as well as continue construction on contingency lines and provide structure protection throughout the fire.
